SMS Group

One-on-One Executive Coaching

Headquartered in Washington, PA, SMS Group provides advanced equipment maintenance services that help metals producers find solutions to their production challenges, improve processes, extend campaigns and reduce maintenance costs.

Many senior leaders within SMS Group have been promoted to their roles without receiving any formal coaching or training. SMS Group is in the midst of a re-shape that will require a new focus on talent retention and attraction.

Catalyst was able to provide Executive Coaching to multiple executives to help them uncover their “real-self” and be coached toward their “ideal-self”. This coaching allowed the participants to allow for new perspectives and manage from a place of empathy and servitude.

Participants were taken through an assessment process to set targets prior to coaching and a final evaluation session was provided that detailed development and results. During the coaching process, regular update reports on coaching progress and status were provided, including strengths and development opportunities, while also appreciating the confidentiality of the coaching.

One-on-One Executive coaching was personalized to the needs of the individual to address such things as:
• managing stress, change, conflict, or crisis
• enhancing personal impact and performance
• supporting the appointment of a person into a different role
• accelerating the personal development of individuals defined as high potential
• acting as an objective and independent sounding board to a senior individual
• offering tailored development as a means of rewarding and retaining key staff critical to the business

This project required that a Catalyst Connection Coach assess and strengthen critical interpersonal, relationship management, communication and managerial competencies of the Learner, required for effective performance within the SMS organization. The Coach also helped with identifying strengths and potential developmental areas in the Learner and guide the Learner toward professional development and organizational continuity.
