Enhancing the Human Machine Interface for Equipment & Instrument Manufacturers

The Conair Equipment HMI (human-machine interface), focused on consistency and ease of use— implemented across multiple product lines—has drastically reduced operator training time and increased overall worker efficiency. By creating a common interface platform with a more consistent user experience and cohesive touchscreen layouts, operators can easily transition from one piece of equipment to another with minimal effort.

KEY OUTCOMES:

• Enhanced user experience and satisfaction

• Significant reduction in required training

•Reduced risk of errors and downtime

• Extensible UI that supports growth.

What makes the equipment unique? What do they all share? With so many products to consider—each with their own task-specific functionality, features, workflows, and data sets—Bally Design began with a discovery research effort to better understand the critical functionality of the equipment and the unique needs of stakeholders. After interviewing Conair’s customers and their operators, Conair’s partners, and members of the Conair’s sales, engineering and service teams, Bally Design built numerous UI (user interface) prototypes to test menu structures, user workflows, screen layouts, nomenclature, and aesthetic approaches.
