Risk Management Training

Course Objective

To raise basic awareness of risk management concepts and mechanisms so that participants can effectively identify and manage risks within their own organizations.

Target Audience

Persons responsible for quality management systems that require risk management processes or anyone engaged in risk assessment, mitigation and management.

Course Duration

Class typically runs 7.5 hours

Course Outline

This training session introduces the definition of risk, the purpose of risk management and discusses steps necessary for the effective management of risks.  Discussion of risk management requirements from various quality management system standards such as ISO-9001, AS9100, ISO-13485 and others are presented.   Presentation of risk principles, management program framework and the development of a risk management process will align with the ISO 31000:2009 – Risk Management standard.

Discussion of numerous catastrophic incidents in history will highlight the importance of proactive risk management programs.  Examples and exercises will be utilized to develop a general understanding of the subject.  Several risk management tools will be presented to help participants set up a risk profile and management plan for their companies. 

 At conclusion of the training session, participants should be able to:

• Understand risk management,

• Understand how risk management affects decision-making,

• Conduct a risk analysis by developing a risk profile and using a risk matrix,

• Identify risks/uncertainties to achieving a set of objectives and expected results,

• Prioritize these uncertainties, and

  • Decide how to act on the uncertainties within a structured framework

About the Trainer

Craig J. Wilson; Managing Director, Quality & Process Improvement Consulting Services

Mr. Wilson has more than twenty years working as a supervisor, manager and advisor in quality assurance and production. Since joining Catalyst Connection in February 1993, he has helped companies in the aerospace, automotive, chemical, defense, food processing and medical industries to develop and implement effective quality management systems. He holds a BS degree in Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from West Virginia University. Mr. Wilson is an AS9100 Aerospace Experience Auditor with Probitas and a QMS Lead Auditor with Exemplar Global. He is a senior member in the American Society for Quality, an ASQ Certified Manager of Quality /Organizational Excellence, Certified Quality Engineer, and Certified Quality Auditor.  Additionally, Mr. Wilson as an IAQG certified Instructor for the AS9100 Aerospace Auditor Transition Training.
