Six Sigma:
Green Belt Training and Certification
Leading projects and generating results
A Six Sigma Green Belt is able to lead a process improvement project team or may also work with their Black Belt to apply the Six Sigma methodology to selected projects. Green Belt Training consists of two weeks of classroom training conducted over a two month period. Each month consists of one week of actual training and classroom work, followed by three weeks applying learned principles and techniques to process improvement projects defined prior to class participation.
Participants will receive all training materials and required books, individualized project review during and after training week, hands-on practice and practical case studies. Follow up management and project support can also be incorporated into the learning experience.
Six Sigma Green Belt candidates must meet the following requirements:
- A desire to learn and a commitment to process improvement.
- A laptop computer (with the Minitab* software loaded) during the training weeks.
- At least one project that will require tool practice and usage during the training.
- A “Champion” that supports the Green Belt candidate and project by agreeing to allocate appropriate time and resources to insure the Green Belt’s success
*Minitab is a statistical software packaged used by most Six Sigma practitioners.
Overview of Training Topics:
- Week 1 – Define, Measure and Analyze: The projects identified prior to training will be properly scoped. Real problems and projects aligned with the organizational strategic goals are identified and prioritized. Process characterization begins and measure systems are validated. Current process variation is quantified.
- Week 2 – Analyze, Improve and Control: The tools will be used to understand where variation exists in the process and how to collect and analyze data to make improvements. The project timeline is revisited, the thought map updated, and problem solving will begin. Measurable gains start to be realized as the improvement begins. The improvements need to be controlled and continued so that long-term results are maintained, producing measurable business results and process knowledge. Projects are documented and process owners recognize their responsibilities for process improvement.
