Electric Power Procurement

Stop riding the wave of volatile electricity rates. Lock in with a low rate and save thousands of dollars.

In 1996, the Electricity Generation Customer Choice and Competition Act was passed and signed into law in Pennsylvania. It gave electric customers in Pennsylvania the ability to choose the company that generates their electricity. At the time deregulation was introduced, caps were placed on electric rates to protect consumers from prices rising too quickly.

Since that time, the wholesale cost of electricity has increased, but these electricity providers were not able to raise their rates to cover their increased costs. However, Pennsylvania rate caps are now being removed in a phased-in approach over the next few years. Duquesne Light and Penn Power have had their rate caps removed.

Therefore, electricity rates from these suppliers are going up. The good news is that Catalyst Connection can help you mitigate these increases and save money by participating in our Power Procurement Program. Catalyst Connection conducted its first bulk purchase of electricity in January 2009 for 13 clients. Our clients saved over $121,000 a year (approximately 13%) on their electricity bills by participating in this program!

Currently, the program is available to manufacturers who are in geographic areas serviced by Duquesne Light and Pennsylvania Power Company. This includes most of Allegheny, Beaver, west Butler and Lawrence counties.

Catalyst Connection has partnered with Northeast Energy Advisors, who aggregate the electrical usage of participating manufacturers, so that the best price can be obtained. We can also help you negotiate electrical pricing if your facility is large enough to generate savings as a stand-alone entity.

Northeast Energy Advisors, a local energy procurement firm, are experienced in evaluating and selecting reliable and cost-effective electricity. They will work on your behalf to generate the lowest price from the reliable power sources. Once the cost is finalized, your contract will be directly with the new electricity source. We will contact you for ongoing renewals when the current contract expires.
